MoreDarrell purchased a TREMEC Magnum PerfectFit™ Kit from us about four years ago. It's one of many upgrades he's made to his Fastback. He tells us "even at 8600rpm it shifts as smooth as silk". The TREMEC 6-Speed came with the STX Shifter® which not only shortened the throw considerably, the custom shifter stub puts the shifter exactly where it should be so that the console can be retained. It may look factory, but the Mustang didn't roll off the factory line able to pull off these numbers. Check out Darrell's 65 on the dyno! The numbers are in the gallary.
MoreThis is my 1972 Plymouth Duster 340 which me and my Dad purchased in 2014 from Clifton Park, NY. This Duster had not been registered since 1980, Originally a Lemon Twist 340 with Vinyl Top and a 727 Torquflite. Unfortunately, the 340 was not with the car when we purchased it. My Dad and I have worked on every inch of the car, making it what it is today. With everything else being mechanically sound and running very well, I wanted something which would be more exciting to drive as well as be a better cruiser. We decided our most recent upgrade needed to be the Tremec TKO 5 Speed. The car is now in Curious Yellow with the Vinyl Top deleted. It has a cam’d 360 Magnum effortlessly mated to a Tremec 5 Speed using Silver Sport’s Perfect Fit Kit. The rear end is a 3:55 Sure Grip Differential and the engine turns just over 2,000 RPM cruising at 65. This Duster runs and drives amazingly smooth, the Clutch feels great and shifts are very positive. My car still retains a very stock look but feels tight, just like a brand new car. I highly recommend getting yourself a Tremec! It was a pleasure to do business with you and the staff at Silver Sport Transmissions. Everyone there has made this large purchase painless and right on target. I couldn't be happier with my TKO and the kit you sent with it. Everything fit together perfectly. It has performed well above my expectations. My car performs excellent, smooth - no complaints! Vinny and Mike P.
MoreDon sent us several photos of his Mopar collection and we're not jealous, you are! This is my 1967 Dodge Coronet 500 2drht--the engine is a 1957 392 Hemi that has a T-56 6-speed with overdrive in 5th & 6th gears--I drove from Florida to upstate New York a few years ago and cruised all the way up & all the way back to Florida with 24.2 mpg average on over a 4000 miles I put on the car on this trip--I got pulled over 4 times & all they wanted was to look at the car--This was my 1st conversion before kits were available--but it is violently fast & quick--its where I became addicted to these trannys--thanks for making kits--its a lot easier than fabricating parts. The 63 Sport Fury has a modern aluminum head 426 Max wedge & the TKO-600 5-speed with 36% OD & I included the engine pictures because hardly anyone ever sees what awsome works of art these are. The 1966 Coronet 500 convertible is the next one to get a 6-speed OD tranny bolted up to this 426 Hemi--this is a real pleasure to drive as is but your 6-speed OD will bring it into the modern world--I love these modern 5 & 6-speed stick O.D. trannys & try talking a lot of folks into them. As for me---they are the only way to fly! I built the 69 Barracuda convertible for my cute wife--its a 383 big block with a 32% OD 5-speed stick & its a wild ride--she started liking the Hemi Coronet too much so I figured I'd better build her one before she got too fond of my Hemi car.
MoreThis ’65 Mustang was given to me by a very generous cousin of mine who wanted to see the car rescued. It has been in my family since new. Although it was a bit rough when I picked it up, it was a completely rust-free, 58,000 original mile car. I debated restoring it versus modifying it, but I just couldn’t fall in love with the original Honey Gold color. I decided to take the plunge and totally change the car. I started by totally disassembling the car and having it dustless blasted. The body and paint were done by Classic Collision and Restoration in Bryan Texas. Even though it didn’t need a lot of bodywork, Doug and his crew at Classic fixed all of the bad factory body gaps and did the paintwork. I built a 332 stroker motor for it. I wanted a stout engine, so I started with a seasoned block bored over .030, put an Eagle stroker kit with a forged crank, rods, and Mahle pistons. Compression should be in the 10 to 10.25 to 1 range. I also installed a Moroso main cap girdle, a Comp hydraulic roller cam (284RF-HR10), Edelbrock Performer, Holley 650, JBA ceramic coated headers - among other modifications. The suspension is still ’65 era leaf and coils, but with Shelby spring rates, a 1” sway bar, KYB gas shocks and I dropped the car 1”. I kept the 8” diff (for now) but put 3.40 gears with Traction-lock and of course the SST Tremec TKO 600 kit for the Mustang. It went in great and only required a slight trim off some bracing on the transmission tunnel. The car has plenty of power but not plenty of traction! The Tremec shifts great and makes the car a pleasure to drive! Louis
MoreI went from a Muncie 4 speed to your 5-speed kit. Everything was a direct bolt-in. Drives like a different car now.
MoreHere are a few pictures of my GTO. The weather has been terrible here and I was finally able to put some miles on it tonight. The car really worked good with the 700R from Phoenix transmission. But now it works GREAT with the Tremec 6 speed transmission! What fun it is to participate in the driving experience. What fun it is to shift gears again. The decision to have a double overdrive that you suggested before purchasing was spot on, 4 gear with a 4.11 gear @ 45 mph = 2250 rpm, 5 gear with a 4.11 gear @ 55mph = 2250 rpm and 6 gear with a 4.11 gear @ 65mph = 2250 rpm which is right in the sweet spot of the 463 stroker Pontiac. Plus now it will shift into overdrive under wide-open throttle. Your guys in customer service and sales were great and the directions for install were good. It was nice to talk to tech guys that are actually car guys and use what they sell. I really enjoyed the install this winter, it was a project that turned out better than expected. The only downfall I can see is that I will probably need to re-ring and bearing my stroker motor after a summer of shifting!! But what better fun could a guy have in the down season ( maybe a 496 stroker next ) guess we will see if the 700 ft pounds of torque is accurate! Thanks for a great product.
MorePat and Christine sent us these beautiful photos of their 1970 Chevelle that now has a Silver Sport Transmission's TREMEC TKO 5-Speed! Enjoy the photos!
MoreThanks for Bringing the Open Road Back to Us. Good morning Jack, Thanks for the nice e-mail. After spending some time with Gene on the phone last Friday,I found his knowledge and overall enthusiasm for myself and my car to be top notch. His knowledge for your product led me to the purchase of the PerfectFit Kit and a rear end so my wife and myself can finish our build. Its nice to have a company that cares about car enthusiasts again. With the m-21 Muncie and 4:10 drum 12-bolt rear axle we have now, we are unable to take our 68 Camaro to car shows out side of or city limits. With your new system, we will be taking this car to car shows around the west cost: Northern California, Oregon, and Nevada. We will be talking and bragging about your service and your product. Thanks for being there, Jack, and bringing the open road back to us. MoreGood Morning Jack and Gene, I just wanted to let you both know that the 5-speed conversion on my 1969 AMX went as smoothly as you promised. I completed the installation yesterday and drove the car for about 50 miles with no issues. All of the measurements required were checked and the only thing out of tolerance was the hydraulic throw-out bearing cushion. I called Gene with the measurements and he knew exactly what spacer was needed to correct it. I had the driveshaft balanced after installing the new slip yoke and the car drove with no vibrations and no additional driveline adjustments. 70 mph at 2100 RPM instead of 3200+ RPM - a very pleasant ride now at highway speed. Attached are pictures of my 1969 AMX that I have owned since 1979 (40 years). Thank you, Vic Torasso
MoreHi All, The new A41 transmission is complete, and as others have said , this is the best upgrade I could have spent money on, glad I didn't wait any longer . I had my mechanic do the install, as other maintenance was being done so it made sense for him do the install, and I'm not as young as I use to be, really couldn't see doing it on jack stands. LOL. As I stated earlier after the delivery The mechanic who is excellent, with all this stuff said "this is an excellent swap of the highest quality, this company has gone above and beyond" He was truly Impressed and had to show it off to a couple of his ( mechanic) buddies who were also impressed and thought it was so cool that the mechanical speedo could be used ( these guys are old school hot - rodders). As for me I can't believe this is the same car, it drives so much better, like a modern day car, it's un-believable. It's hard to explain, but I feel so much more comfortable driving it now, and if it is even possible to imagine the car seems much more as ease, hope that doesn't sound too crazy. Much quieter at highway speed and less effort on the engine. The install went without a hitch everything that was needed was there, and all the components worked great together, no second guessing, and excellent installation instructions, I don't know why anyone would buy anything other than a SST Perfect Fit conversion. Thank You for a great product, everyone at SST has every right to be proud of their product! Brian Woods
MoreMichael wrote us and said, "This is fantastic! It's a whole different car. It's amazing what a great transmission will do for a great motor!
MoreHi Cheryl: This is my 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo SS454 with your TKO600 5-speed behind my throttle-body fuel-injected 454 motor. I have had it on the road since February 2018 and have put about 2000 miles on it this Summer and absolutely love it. Best regards, John Engle
MoreJesse called us after trying 2-3 other aftermarket shifters that all leaked. He heard about our new STX® shifters that just hit the market and this is what he had to say after installing his new STX short throw shifter: Jeff, I want to thank you and your team for all the help in designing and building the custom shifter for my T56 Magnum. I absolutely love it !!!!! It fits PERFECTLY !!!! It is a work of art and pure perfection !!!! Thank you so much, Jesse Petas
MoreGood morning Jack, Just a quick note to say how delighted we are with the new Tremec Magnum we installed in our old 1968 Cougar. Our car is not a trailer queen its more like a Steve McQueen driver. We had to put the OD to the test and hit the interstate last Thursday and headed to Springfield IL. for a big car show. Everyone we spoke to asked where we parked the trailer? We dont own a car trailer we drove the 13 hours 780 one way miles. Needless to say we won the long distance award hands down. The next day we made a few stops on Route 66 and decided to head to Pontiac, Illinois. This Magnum makes it so easy to keep up with anything on the road. The hydraulic clutch has been effortless even in big city stop and go traffic. Underhood temps are cool and comfortable. The fuel economy is much better even with a worked over 331 Ford. We are still out on the road enjoying shifting my own gears until Tuesday. I expect we will be close to a 2000 mile round trip with all the side stops and tearin up the interstates. Thank you again for a great very well engineered transmission package. Matt Shuman
MoreGood Morning Jack, I Just wanted to say thanks to you, and your staff, for the Great Customer Service I received with my transmission purchase, and the help with the installation. I know there were some issues and concerns at the beginning with some installation problems on my end, but you and your staff worked closely with me to make sure that I had everything I needed to make the installation right, even swapping the 6 speed transmission for a 5 speed transmission which fit much better in my 1969 Firebird. The fact that you spoke with me personally over the phone, and made some recommendations to me on what you thought would be best for me and my car, made all the difference in the world to how things turned out. Your advice was right on the money, and the final installation went just fine with no hangups. Without your help, I probably would still be fighting the installation of the transmission. Now that everything with the transmission is completed, along with my totally rebuilt 400 motor, I'm enjoying the car more than ever with that 5 speed overdrive transmission. Once again, thank you for all your help, and please thank all the members of your staff that assisted me at different times throughout this process, including Gene, Franky, and Richard. If I come across anyone looking to upgrade their transmission in the future, I will definitely recommend Silver Sport Transmissions to them. Tony LaRosa
MoreDave purchased a TREMEC TKO 600 for his 1970 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler and sent us these great photos and a testimonial. Richard, Glad to here from you! I couldn’t be happier with this install. I didn’t have to cut anything! Yes my car has a removable shift hump. Everything bolted right in place! We had a break in the weather two weeks ago, I got to take the car for a test drive and am thrilled with how it drives now! This was the best upgrade I have made to any vehicle! Be sure to tell Jeff that I appreciate all the support you guys gave me! I have been recommending SST to everyone that will listen to me! Thanks so much! Dave Clark
MoreA few months ago, I purchased a 1970 Corvette with the intent of installing a TREMEC Magnum 6 speed transmission in it. My Corvette was an LT-1(370 HP) with a 4 speed and 3.70:1 Rear Axle Ratio. In addition to the transmission, we also installed a hydraulic clutch actuator and our new SST Advanced Friction™ STR clutch kit. The STR is designed for engines up to 450 ft. lbs. of torque and to provide light pedal effort and smooth street characteristics. We completed the install, the day before our Christmas vacation and I decided to drive it home to show my family and friends. Home is 890 miles away (Knoxville, TN to Pryor, OK). This is a fairly daunting trip when you consider the car is 48 years old and we had only driven it a few times around the plant. But, I had a lot of confidence in our team and our products so I took off for Oklahoma. The trip home provided a great test of our products. Although it was mainly highway driving (I40), the route took me over the Cumberland Plateau (6% grade) and the cities of Nashville and Memphis during the peak rush hours. Prior to the TREMEC Magnum, 2000 RPM would get me 44 MPH in high gear (4th). With the Magnum, I could get 54 MPH in 5th and 69 MPH in 6th. At 2300 RPM, this increased to 62 MPH in 5th and 79 MPH in 6th. I can’t imagine making this trip without the advantages of an overdrive transmission. The Magnum transmission handled the mountains very easily in 6th gear…even the steepest grades. And, on the open road, it was easy to keep up with or pass the other vehicles. 5th gear was especially important when driving in heavy traffic, like rush hour in Memphis and Nashville. It allowed me to operate in overdrive a relatively slow speeds when my engine couldn’t handle the 6th gear overdrive ratio. Many times, we are asked what the advantage of the Magnum is over the TKO and this is the big advantage to me. You will be able to use overdrive more often if you have the option of a .80 overdrive in addition to a .63 or .64. All of the equipment performed flawlessly. The clutch was very friendly, it has nice street characteristics. The pedal effort was light, no chatter and it gripped very well. The hydraulic actuator felt really nice and it will never need to be adjusted. There were no vibrations and the car ran smoother than it ever had. It is clear why our customers tell us “This is the best upgrade my car ever had”
MoreJim installed a stock, out of the box TREMEC TKO into his 1981 Camaro. He did purchase an offset shifter stub, which put the shifter close to the stock location, but his driveline angles were completely off. Plus the shifter wasn't completely right either. He came to us with this complaint, "While the unmodified version worked with the offset shifter stub....it still did not allow the shifter body to clear inside the shifter opening. This created an annoying driveline vibe because I was not able to lift the tail of the transmission high enough." We sent him our Silver Sport Transmissions PerfectFit™ TREMEC TKO for 2nd Gen F-bodies. The streamlined transmission and compact shifter were able to get the correct driveline height in the tunnel, he only had to massage the tunnel a little where the corners of the TKO interfered. In Jim's experience, the transmission was able to come up an additional 5/8" to 3/4", correcting the angle. He now has no vibration (although he does believe years of driving around with bad driveline angles have damaged his U-joints, which he plans to replace). As for how the transmission shifts, Jim's smile says it all! He likes "that [the SST Shifter] feels so firm". He's proudly wearing his SST hat while taking his Camaro out on a test drive.
